Fifty years ago today, on April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans took to the streets to protest environmental destruction and to celebrate the wonders of Planet Earth. The basic message was that we had to find new ways to live our lives, raise our food, and conduct our businesses that were environmentally friendly and sustainable—that would not waste resources or pollute the air, the water, or the soil.
In 1973 Bio Huma Netics was formed to provide earth-friendly agricultural products and soil and wastewater bioremediation products. Our Huma Gro® crop fertilizers and protection products were less harsh and more efficient so that soils could improve and fertilizers would not be leached into groundwater, lakes, and rivers. Our Huma Gro® Turf products offered similar earth-friendly solutions for golf courses and other recreation areas. Our Probiotic Solutions® products were created to clean up contaminated soils and water—particularly the wastewater from cities and industry.
In 2018 we created a fully organic agriculture fertilizer line, Fertilgold® Organics, that captured the effectiveness of our Huma Gro® products while using even more earth-friendly ingredients.
On April 22, celebrate with us by doing something good for Planet Earth. There are still enormous environmental challenges ahead, but there are also great opportunities. Plant a tree, grow some vegetables, pick up some trash, conserve water—do whatever you can to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this important movement. Despite the stay-at-home orders now in place in both Arizona and New Mexico, our production facilities are currently operating at full capacity, and we are working tirelessly to ensure that our high-quality BHN products can reach you in a timely manner, free of contamination. We are not currently aware of any disruption in our supply chain, and we have adequate inventory of our products for our customers and their needs.
Our Sales and Customer Service teams are fully trained to serve your needs. Your business is very important to us, and we appreciate your understanding and flexibility during this time. The California Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA) has registered 8 Fertilgold® Organics products as Organic Input Materials (OIM) that can be sold in the state. Those products include the following: secondary macronutrients Fertilgold® Ca and Fertilgold® Mg, and micronutrients Fertilgold® B, Fertilgold® Co, Fertilgold® Mo, Fertilgold® MoN, Fertilgold® Zn, and Fertilgold® Micros I (which contains a balanced ratio of S, B, Cu, Fe, Mo, Mn, and Zn). All Fertilgold® Organics liquid products are powered by a proprietary Micro Carbon Technology® that rapidly delivers essential nutrition to crops for optimal growth, fruiting, and vigor.
Fertilgold® Organics, a brand line of Bio Huma Netics, Inc. (the maker of Huma Gro® products for conventional farming, and Mesa Verde Humates®), offers a complete line of 25 OMRI-Listed organic fertilizers and crop protection products (see list of available products). Bio Huma Netics, Inc. (BHN), President and CEO Lyndon Smith has announced the appointment of Jonathan Plehn to the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Vice President of Finance and Accounting. BHN produces the Huma Gro®, Huma Gro® Turf, Fertilgold® Organics, Probiotic Solutions®, and Mesa Verde Humates® product lines.
Mr. Plehn brings a wealth of knowledge from a background of financial leadership in the manufacturing, engineering, and chemical industries. He has an accounting degree from the University of Utah, an MBA with an emphasis in Computer Information Systems from California State University—East Bay, and a Lean Executive Leadership Institute Certificate from the University of Kentucky. He is also a certified public accountant (CPA) and speaks Spanish. Previous posts include VP Finance and Treasurer at Newpark Resources, Inc. (fluids systems, chemicals, and engineering), Director of Finance at Thermo Fisher Scientific (analytical instruments and laboratory supply), Global Consolidations Manager at Applied Biosystems (biotechnology tools and solutions), and Account Manager at Morgan Stanley.
Lyndon Smith said, “We believe Jonathan Plehn will be a great fit for our company. He has the financial leadership capabilities we need at this time to continue BHN’s growth and success. He’s also just a great guy who will be an asset to our company culture.”

Plehn has been married to his wife Amber for 23 years. They have 6 children.
Bio Huma Netics, Inc., President and CEO Lyndon Smith has been selected to speak at the New AG International—Africa Conference, to be held April 6–8 in Marrakesh, Morocco. The full conference title is “A 360-Vision of Specialty Fertilizer, Precision Ag, Irrigation, and Biostimulant Developments in Africa.”
Mr. Smith’s presentation, titled “The biostimulant effect of humic substances: A case study in Africa,” will be given at 10 am on April 08. His presentation topics will include the following: the definition and classification of humic substances, atmospheric effects in soil, physiological effects in plants, and case studies with liquid solutions in dryland farming techniques.
