BHN Research & Development Center

The BHN Research & Development (R&D) Center is a division of Bio Huma Netics, Inc. (BHN)—the maker of Huma Gro®, Fertilgold® Organics, Huma Gro® Turf, Probiotic Solutions®, and Mesa Verde Humates® products. The BHN R&D Center has 3 primary areas of responsibility: product development & improvement, product quality assurance, and humic research.

To equip this R&D center, BHN has invested in state-of-the-art laboratory tools including a PerkinElmer NexION 350x Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) unit fitted with a SC-FAST sample introduction system and PC3x Peltier Cooler for elemental analysis; a Thermo Scientific FlashSmart Elemental Analyzer for carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen determination; a Lachat Quickchem Flow Injection Analyzer for nitrogen speciation; and a Spectrum Two Fourier Transform Infared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) unit for functional group characterization. Additional scientific tools recently added include the following: Horiba Scientific Aqualog UV/Fluorescence spectrometer, Nikon TE2000-U Fluorescence Microscope, Hiescher UIP1000ndT Sonciator, Pilotech YC-018 Spray Dryer, Forma Scientific Class A/B5 Biological Safety Cabinet, Beckman Coulter Allegra X-14 Centrifuge, Buchii R-216 Rotovapor, Millrock Technology Benchtop Freeze Dryer, Labconco Freezone 2.5 plus Freeze Dryer, Caron 7301-50-2 Plant Growth Chamber, and a WhinRHIZO Pro 2017 Root Analyzer.

BHN President and CEO Lyndon Smith stated, “I’m really excited about the capabilities that this expanded, fully equipped R&D center brings to BHN in terms of new product development and enhancements, assuring excellent quality control over our existing products, and pushing the boundaries of what is known about humic substances. This R&D center consolidates BHN’s role in developing innovative solutions for agriculture, turf, and soil & wastewater bioremediation.”

The staff currently includes 3 doctorate-level scientists, a formulation chemist, an analytical chemist, and a plant bioassay specialist.

The BHN R&D Center is located about ½ mile from the main BHN headquarters, at 1350 W Harwell Rd, in Gilbert, Arizona.
